Nice photos. You could have put some description of the traditional functions associated with the wedding too.Are these some rituals specific to Kshatriyas?

When you get to the bottom of some of these rituals, you end up getting quite surprised..Interesting, surely..took me back home once again..
Thank you, agp. Yes, some of these functions on the eve of the marriage were peculiar to Kshathriyas. In earlier days, the marriages were more like Veli among Namboothirisand as Agnisakshi. Of late, the marriage day funcions are restricted to Thalikettu, Mothram maral, and Pudava kodukkal as in the case of Nairs too. I shall try to write on these sometime soon.
Thank you, Meera. I am sure, Aparna will be quite thrilled by your comment.
Thanks, Nebu.
Thank you, Maddy. Glad to note your comments.

Your niece is very pretty!
Your reference to Maveli's drummers in modern costume brings to mind how much everyday wear has changed in Kerala. Earlier I would see ladies in blouses and 'mundu' with a 'thorthu' working in paddy fields, etc. Nowadays they all wear voluminous full-sleeved men's shirts with their mundu. And the girls are all in salwar-kameezes and the traditional long skirts seem to have disappeared from the scene.
Thank you, Sunita. I shall inform your comment to my niece who has since joined her husband in Pune.

As you rightly remarked, photos do provide a history of the changing costumes and the way of life of people.
